The Kentland Farms flight test area and the Kentland Experimental Aerial Systems (KEAS) laboratory are a resource for faculty, students, and university affiliates looking for a rural test environment relatively close to campus. A 300-foot paved runway supports flight operations.
Users are required to review and comply with the protocol for Kentland Farms flights.
- Part 107 FAA Remote Pilot Certificate or other applicable FAA authorization. The only exception is an operation incidental to coursework or research in which the operator is directly supervised by a Part 107-certified pilot.
- Virginia Tech UAS Pilot Training; contact firstname.lastname@example.org or the UAS Safety Office (required for all operators, regardless of supervision).
- Signed acknowledgement of KEAS Laboratory
safety protocols and responsibilities must be on record with the UAS Safety Office.
- Aircraft must be registered with the UAS Safety Office (this also puts your aircraft on file with the Virginia Tech Office of Insurance and Risk Management).
