The easiest way to fly a drone on campus is to use the Virginia Tech Drone Park. We encourage you to take advantage of this facility!
If your operation cannot be conducted in the drone park, you will be required to obtain certain authorizations and meet the requirements outlined in the protocol for on-campus flights. Reviewing and complying with this protocol is mandatory.
If you're conducting flights under this protocol, you must:
- Obtain a Part 107 FAA Remote Pilot Certificate.
- Complete additional training required for flights at Virginia Tech; contact the UAS Safety Office for details.
- Register your aircraft with the Virginia Tech Office of Insurance and Risk Management.
- Obtain specific written permission for each flight or mission from the UAS Safety Office.
Commercial and Third Party operations will have additional requirements.
Contact the UAS Safety Office for questions.
