A student launches a drone in the Virginia Tech Drone Park

Student flying drone at Virginia Tech

The easiest way to fly drones at Virginia Tech is to use the Drone Park, where  students, researchers, faculty, staff or university affiliates can safely operate UAS without the constraints of registrations, certifications or specialized training.

Anyone using the park is required to review and comply with the protocol for Drone Park flights.

Beyond that, operators must simply:

  • Check for open time on the Drone Park calendar (coming soon!).
  • Email VTDronePark@vt.edu with your name, organization, number participating, and requested date/time.
  • Complete the one-time Drone Park Orientation Briefing; email VTDronePark@vt.edu to sign up.

Commercial and third-party operations will have additional requirements.

The Virginia Tech Drone Park is located at 2143 Oak Lane; see the map below.
